Gabriela carried a light that was impossible to ignore: her laughter, her determination, and her unwavering belief that she could do anything she set her mind to. When I got the news, I felt the ground shift beneath me. I kept thinking about all the things she still wanted to do, all the dreams she had shared with me over our calls.

This loss reminded me of something my abuela used to say: “Mija, la vida es un suspiro.” Life is just a breath. We spend so much time waiting — waiting for the right moment, waiting until we feel ready, waiting for permission. But the truth is, there is no perfect moment. There is only now. Gabriela taught me that through her urgency to live fully, even when the odds were stacked against her. She didn’t wait for anyone to tell her she was enough; she just went for it.
