E49: Life is so short – Honoring Gabriela Gonzalez

I need to be real with you today. This episode is raw and unfiltered because that’s the only way I know how to process what’s happened. We lost Gabriela Gonzalez, and if you’ve been part of this community for any amount of time, you know how deeply her story intertwined with everything we stand for. She was a first-gen college graduate, a dreamer, and someone who carried the weight of her family’s expectations while building something beautiful for herself.

As first-gen women, we carry a unique kind of pressure — the pressure to succeed not just for ourselves but for everyone who came before us. And when we lose someone in our community, it hits differently. It forces us to confront the question: are we actually living, or are we just surviving? Are we chasing what matters, or are we stuck performing for an audience that doesn’t even see us? Gabriela never performed. She was authentic down to her core, and that’s what made her extraordinary.

This episode is my way of honoring her legacy and also shaking you — lovingly — into action. If you’ve been carrying grief, if you’ve been delaying joy, if you’ve been telling yourself “someday,” I need you to hear me: someday is not promised. This conversation is for the first-gen daughters, the dreamers, the ones who feel the clock ticking. Let’s honor Gabriela by living out loud.
